Yakima Valley Transportation Niles Combine #100, HO scale

On suggestion from an interested modeler, I started something small, one of the smallest Interurban Combines, the Yakima Valley Transportation #100, build by Niles.

A really tiny car, but very well proportioned. NWSL Stanton drives will be the motive power.

Ohio Public Service No. 21 (Niles 51 ft Combine)

I received the first test print of the Niles 51 ft Combine and painted it in the colors of the Ohio Public Service.

Many Thanks to Ryan Hoover who convinced me to build this nice car and helped much with documentation.

The car is posed on Taylor trucks, the prototypical Peckham truck frames are ready, but I have to order new NWSL Stanton drives.

The "Providence" fender will turn black, also soon.

Niles 51 ft Interurban wooden Combine

51 ft wooden Interurban Combine, built by the Niles Car & Mfg. Co., with "Providence" fender. Cars of this type were in service on the Ohio Public Service line, The Lake Shore Electric and the Toldedo & Western.

3D drawing drives me crazy ;-) .

This side panels are made of one standard element that could be "cloned" several times to obtain a car of a given length. Windows are "functionally" and could be raised into the gothic sashes.

 The monitor roof is still a challenge, as it would be a vintage MCB "high speed" truck.

A short brake with the painful 3D drawings

Yesterday, I found two Suydam Brass Interurbans in a model train shop in Paris - and bought them immediately. Suydam models are very rare in Europe and hard to obtain. So I have now a big Niles wooden 1907 car (painted green) and a smaller Chicago North Shore 700 (brass). Basic condition is surprisingly good, and I will start to clean them and remove paintings. Following the guidelines of Master Mechanic Dan D. Sparks , I will try a careful restauration of this fine cars.
